 John R. Barnard

John Barnard is
a manager, consultant and business owner by training
and experience. In addition to working in his family-owned
business (Distribution of printing papers to publishers
and printers in the Boston area), he gained early experience
serving in a Fortune 500 electronics Manufacturer (Corporate
Comptroller’s Office, Policy and Administration and
as Business Manager for the Advanced Development Projects
Program Office).
He has successfully acquired, managed, expanded and
sold his own business in Massachusetts (animal health,
pet, equine, home and garden supplies). He led a nine
person consulting team, numerous subcontractors and
an accounting firm under contract to the Small Business
Administration and to the Department of Commerce providing
feasibility analyses, technical, managerial and fund
raising services.
In 1983 he founded SVI Corporation to utilize his experience
for the benefit of the owners of smaller and mid-sized
privately held companies. Projects have included sales
of high tech composites, wholesale electronics and molding
equipment, installing a cost control system for a government
software contractor per the request of the Defense Contract
Audit Agency, setting up a “rep” organization for a
CT manufacturer, acting President of a publicly listed
product development company (photovoltaic).
He has helped owners prepare their companies for sale,
acted as intermediary for company sales, performed individual
searches for acquisition and a 12 company roll-up (consolidation),
completed innumerable valuations for purposes of sale,
estate planning, sale of minority interests and ESOP
evaluations.
John earned his AB in English at Princeton University
and an MBA in Finance at the Harvard University Graduate
School of Business Administration. He served in the
US Navy, active duty, achieved third-in-command of an
ASW destroyer serving in the 2nd and 6th Fleets.
Also, a past lecturer, Small Business Management, Northeastern
University, Graduate School of Business Administration.
Private Pilot’s License (inactive). Past Director, ArtBeCause,
a foundation to eradicate the cause of breast cancer
formed by survivors and members of the Boston Arts Community.
Former Treasurer and Executive Committee Member at a
local summer church in Kennebunkport, Maine.
John and his wife, Hoppy, are parents of two grown children.
They live in Hollis, NH.
